Laugh Books

Kids are always saying the neatest things. They say something that really touches your heart or things that are so sweet and innocent that you have a hard time hiding your laughter at the inaccuracies in their thoughts and statements.

I was sharing with some family members something funny my daughter Kayla Shaye had told me once. Kayla and I were sitting in the car waiting for preschool to start and I had asked her what kind of animal she wanted to be. When Kayla told me she wanted to be an elephant because they had a trunk; I mentioned to her that I wanted to be an eagle because I thought it would be neat to fly. Kayla thought that was really cool and said that she wanted to fly as well. So you could see the light bulb go off as a thought dawned across her face and she looked at me with great excitement and said, “I’ll be Dumbo!”

It was so precious.

Moments like that are ones I want to savor and share with others. When I shared this sweet moment with my family members, my aunt told me of what some ladies in her church do when they come across tender times such as this. They keep what they call “Laugh Books.”

A Laugh Book is a journal that you keep for each of your children. You record the funny things they say or do and write down the date or age in which the child said it. It is a neat way to keep track of the special memories for you as a mom, but also fun for the children as well because you can read the stories back to them and the details won’t get lost or changed over time.

We all love to swap stories about our children. A Laugh Book is just the way to do it!
